The land of “ooohs” and “ahhhs”…

Every morning I watch our 15-month old so that my wife can get her much needed rest. This morning we went out to the front yard and I turned on the sprinklers to water the grass. We live somewhat in the hills so there are always birds, planes or helicopters flying around us and above us.

With every step and touch of a new plant or flower the “ahhhhs” begin to ooze from Ezrah’s tender lips. Then as the birds flew and the airplanes and helicopters roared the air was filled with a series of “ooohs”.

This morning was such a time of discover for my baby and I. His discoveries were the newness and sounds of life. My discoveries were the new ways that I saw Ezrah and the immense joy that he brought me this morning.

Ooooh, how I relate! Watching them discover life, seeing life through their eyes, is such a precious gift. it is sobering. It forces you to slow down and look at things you took for granted, and marvel at them. Watching my son study every new thing, ask me “what’s that?” and then trying to remember its name, repeating it several times, clumsily, and then, finding its translation in French, by himself, has me floored. The brightness and intelligence of these little ones, their innocent curiosity, I love it!

Thank you for sharing, and I envy your wife for the rest she gets in the morning! My husband leaves for work before our son wakes up, or right when he wakes up, which is anywhere between 5:45 and 6 :30 !!!

Hello Swissmama…thanks so much for commenting and providing your insights with your son as well. I get what you are saying how when our kids begin to discover things it causes us to slow down. I am learning in those moments that I begin discover the newness of all of this as well. It is wonderful to feel like a kid again at times. Live and parenting brings so many pressures that we lose our childlikeness. Is that a word?

I love the one-on-one time that I get with my son in the mornings. I am so thankful that I have a job that allows me to have this time.

Please continue to provide your insights swissmama. They are very much appreciated.
